SHADOWS

This piece reflects the shapes and structures of the chapel, and focuses on the (in)visible presence of the people that sustain them. The piece is being created in part from interviews with those who work in the chapel today, as well as those who visit.

If you have visited or worked in the chapel, please share your ideas with us.

The first part of this piece draws on the presence of women in the architectural structures of the chapel. The major carvings in the chapel depict the red rose of Lancaster, the green hawthorn bush of the Bosworth field and the Portcullis, the heraldic emblem of the Beaufort family. All of these are associated with Lady Margaret Beaufort.

The second section of the piece focuses on the work of the women who clean and curate the chapel on a daily basis

The third section moves us to the visitors; those who come to admire, photograph, pray, learn about and enjoy the chapel.

All images of the Chapel used on this site were taken by Tim Kasoar, Lucy McMahon and Hilary Goodall and used by kind permission of the Provost and Scholars of King's College Cambridge.

We would like to thank the Chapel staff for their support and assistance with this project. Also many thanks to Patricia McGuire, King's College archivist for help with the research process.
