Choreographer "Kepler's Trial" October 2016
Kepler's Trial is a new opera by Tim Watts that tells the story of the witchcraft trial of Katharina Kepler, the mother of the astronomer Johannes Kepler. It is based on Ulinka Rublack's book 'The Astronomer and the Witch' and film by Aura Satz. It was directed by William Ashford. The choreography was a collaborative project with Isabel Estevez and Joanna Ye. We drew from symbolism in the libretto, Johannes Kepler's mathematical theories and the imagined relationship between Johannes and his mother.
