I have extensive experience working as a freelance proofreader and editor. I have supported students and academics in the preparation of articles for publication, and have proofread a number of successful Masters and PhD theses in the areas of International Law, Human Rights, Philosophy, Development Studies, Dance, Anthropology and Literature. I can additionally support writers with idiomatic use of English language, academic tone, sentence and article structure. I have translated Portuguese-English and Spanish-English for journalism and academic publications.
'Lucy is fantastic to work with: she is warm and enthusiastic, a creative thinker with great attention to detail, and has a broad understanding of many topics. Lucy has copy edited much of my work, and I can only recommend her!'
A Cambridge-based writer
My standard rate is £25/hour for basic proofreading, and £35/hour for copyediting.
However, for those on low incomes or in difficult circumstances, or for large pieces of work (e.g. a PhD thesis) I am happy to negotiate an affordable rate that works for both of us, so please do get in touch and I look forward to hearing from you!
The way I work is that I proof for one hour, you have a look at the work, and then we have a conversation about whether or not you are happy to continue, or if you want a different direction/focus. At this point I can provide a quote for the full work and we set a deadline together.
